Why 600 words?
A few words carry most of the Quran
The Quran has 77,429 words, but they are built from only 4,771 dictionary words — and a small group of them repeats again and again. Allah alone appears 2,699 times; qāla (he said) 1,618 times.

Frequently asked questions
Is it really true that 600 words make up most of the Quran?
Yes. We counted every word of the Quran by its dictionary form using the Quranic Arabic Corpus. The 600 most frequent words make up 83.4% of all its words (counting every time a word appears; attached pronoun endings like -hum and -ka are not counted separately). The first 25 words alone cover 37.8%.
Do I need to know Arabic already?
No. You only need to be able to read the Arabic script, as you do when reciting. Every word comes with its pronunciation in English letters, its meaning, and a verse where it appears.
Which languages are the meanings in?
Every verse is given in English and in Roman Urdu (Urdu written in English letters), so it is easy for Urdu and Hindi speakers. Harder words get a simple meaning in a small tag right next to them.
Where do the translations come from?
The English meanings follow Marmaduke Pickthall's translation and the Urdu meanings follow Maulana Muhammad Junagarhi's translation. The Arabic text, word counts and roots come from the Quranic Arabic Corpus. We do not change the translations — our simple explanations are shown separately.
How do I receive the book?

Can I print it?
